The time has come. Blogger has told me that I have met my end. Yes, there is a picture limit which I have struck. There is no more room for me here. So you are asking, 'Now what, Cody? Now what? Feliz went on a little camping trip so I got to look after the little runt! I had bunnies when I was growing up and had debated getting one this year here-- so I was excited to check it out. I was forewarned that the bunny, Mandu, would not let me touch it much let alone pet it. But HORRARY! The little buddy hopped right into my arms! We were the best of buds and I hope his mom lets me come visit again soon!

Aahhhh Summer. Fresh salsa is upon us. Mexican night with homemade guacamole, salsa, nachos, and mexican steak sandwiches (we were aiming for mexican burgers but a problem arose and steak was had). Next, is an example of my usual Thursday lunch. After a Wednesday night Spanish class, home cooked meal date night, Dan and I rejoin the world at a local ma and pa kimbab shop. We have a few restaurants we choose from- pick one and off we go. Question: Are we as cutesy//disgusting when others aren't around? Answer: We are more cutesy/ disgusting at this point. Come into a shop in PNU around noon on a Thursday and there you will find us picking out the best bites from our two shared plates to feed each other. Question: Do we tell friends to meet us at 8:30 and then arrive at 8 so we can be alone first? Answer: Why certainly. <3 Dan is on vacation now, if you can't tell. 40 days in Europe and only three are down :::le sigh::: :/ I am doing great with my time: hanging out with girl friends, the beach, books, cleaned the house, new super cool nails, two home cooked meals, and I hope to keep it all going with a little list of things I intend to do. However, you know, I miss him so. Anyhow, back to the food. Okay I know-- after that rant you won't want to see this but here it is!! Heart shaped pancakes for brunchie with some office on the side. Who knew life could be this good. ha ;) Last but not least another go at the Thai coconut chicken risotto. Que rico!

Collwyn organized a mega sweet Canada Day Festival. Tons of great bands in an outdoor amphitheater near the beach! It was awesome. Wonderful weather, excellent people, terrific music- a smash hit! Right after the fest a mass of clouds rolled in and we were swimming in fog. It was crazy to watch them come in and engulf everything and everyone. I didn't get any pictures of this moment but I did borrow two from Soonsue to give you an idea. The photos don't compare but it's fare to say we were in horror movie set.

Rooftop Discovery

A few weeks ago I discovered my roof. 23 stories + an extra level thingy and here you are almost in the Busan mountain tops. A birds eye view to perfect summer days and nights. We broke in the roof with a movie night. Brought up blankets, junk food, and wine along with a flick -- to imitate a dive-in theatre. Que romantica?!!

The next afternoon we took up loads of art supplies: water colors, markers, colored pencils, oil pastels- you name it! Art day on the roof ensued.

Happy Fourth of July, my friends!

I love all holidays. Especially being away, I become quite nostalgic and miss home. I usually end upping the bar with a grand celebration on whatever scale it may be. This year was a fumble on the holiday. Try and try, it just hasn't seemed like panning out, right on down to my red(orange), white, and blue nails. Never the less the holiday was held in my mind and little surprises were had.

I ate a dill pickle that was mailed to me from America.

I got a piece of mail from another friend with a Minnesota shaped, beautiful, snowy scene refrigerator magnet.

I watched a clip from the Fourth of July in The Sandlot.

I bought glitter and black paper-- I plan to blow glue around and sprinkle it with colors for the big grand finale tonight! Woohoo!

I got a sun burn this weekend and a few new mosquito bites.

Okay now I'm just scraping the bottom of the barrel. But no big deal it was alright. Nothing too special.

I came home on Sunday night after a weekend jammed packed with Canada Day celebrations (wwaaahwaahhh). They were fun but made me jealous. I still had hopes for a holiday horrah. Then I read some junky America articles as are such:

MN shutting down the state parks and public services. (post script: My mom told me that there were horrible storms this weekend. Trees were down all over and the parks were in shambles. Perhaps this was a mini blessing in disguise. )

Oh how happy and hopeful this post was before. Sometimes I think the country is making it pretty hard for me to come back. And I also feel responsible for not being there to do anything by working towards a positive action.

I don't want to get to philosophical on you right now. I have already typed more than what I have all year long. But I am proud to be an American. And thankful for it too. Although I sometimes cringe, I cross my fingers and hope that someday we can work towards the better -- no no achieve the better society I know our country deserves and can obtain.

And to end on a lighter note:

The nostalgic me wants to reminisce on Fourth of July's past. No too much happened this year but all the while the thoughts were there.

I had my highest level students write a letter to a business of their choice. They did a great job. Fabulous choices! Ha! A long running joke (but in all seriousness) with many of my friends here- is 'Where is the Wendy's?' 'Get Wendy's in Korea!' sorta thing. My jaw hit the floor when I started to receive rough drafts about bringing Wendy's to Korea with no preemptive encouragement. The war between kimbab junguk and kimbab nara (two Korean style 'fast food' resturants- quick not greasy) ragged on. And one girl woahed about her father's job. Writing with the kids is so much better than the blah blah books. I hope that the next texts we get are geared towards writing as well!

Goat & mokoli village + a mini rant

Less talk:::more rock:: at least that's what blogger is telling me. As I have mentioned, blogger has some new weird thing with the formating which makes it terribly annoying and more than slightly difficult to comment on individual pictures. This being so I am most likely going to be typing less (not that I did too much to begin with) than usual on my photos and adventures. Perhaps I should look into switching servers. But judging by my never changing, not that wonderful blog design and layout as well as recent lack of post, I don't see that happening anytime soon. Sorry, keep in mind I would be commenting more and filling you in on details if blogger didn't bite the big one with this change. For now you will have to wonder things like, "Why are there so many pictures of cows?" or "What is that dog doing?'-- (answer ps- you never EVER see cows in Korea- and yet milk and beef is everywhere, two- Alex misses his mom while we dine on mokoli and pajeon) If you have a question, feel free to ask! And curses to you blogger for making my life more complicated than in already is!

Continuing on to the real fun...

Sansung Village known for it's goat meat and fresh mountain mokoli! We hiked (we skipped have and took the cable car half way then hiked the rest) up a mountain to a tiny and jaw-droppingly beautiful, mountain village. It was Children's day-- so we figured 'hey, eat a kid for the kids!' This town was so beautiful and as I found out, only a 20min bus ride from Busan! I wish I lived there! Maybe someday.... it was soooo beautiful. The pictures don't give it justice. Being in the mountains and country like that. Oh man, I was in love. And it gets even better, a man whom my friends met at a mokoli tour and making class the weekend before invited us to his HOUSE for this goat! We ate a goat fresh from his farm! What hospitality! His place was also host to other cultural activities such as pottery and clay work. It was neat to see the many projects around the place. Gardens and ponds, farm animals, the sun setting in the mountains, lanterns all over for Buddha's birthday! Man this was one amazing trip!!

Awesome. This video persuades me to blog almost anything you please. Exciting stuff coming. A wonderful, amazingly beautiful goat village is on the forefront. Seouled Out!!

A couple of weekends ago a bunch of us rented a van and drove up to Seoul for a mega concert called 51+ Over 70 bands played for free to try and save an old building where the show was hosted. Honestly, they need to tear the thing down. Good little fest though and even better time visiting with friends in good ol' Seoul. It was my first time there since last year in Korea. The time went much too fast.

There is some weird new formating going on with my blog. So I'm not going to write next to each pic. Also, I did take videos. But yet again I am skipping this portion for now. The run down-- lots of bands--some good/some bad, tons of rain which made it sloppy, dirty builiding, TACO BELL (yes!), and well Seoul.
I also scored some mac and cheese, hotpockets, and rootbeer while in that fine city. Just like livin' in America there!

Filip was in town! He just moved back to Korea but this time is trying out Seoul. His Busan visit flew by far to fast. I was only able to visit with him for all of ten minutes. ::pout:: A popular man must be passed around. We tried to capture it on film and I was glad to see that the photographer was as drunk as we were; not to mention, was able to successfully make us look like monsters although we were all quite fashionable this evening. Ohhh mmyyy gooosssshhh!! A recreation of Sunnyside-Up cafe's crunchy french toast!

Breakfast Hash aka Mexican Skillet aka Breakfast stuff aka yummy brunch concoction with steak, peppers, mushrooms, zucchini, tattor tots and cheese.

For burger night we invested in a bag of tattor tots. Since then many meals have included this starchy treat. Tomorrow night will be an attempt for stove-top tattor-tot hotdish, which Dan has never had!

p.s. Is my 'food blog' the hickest around or what? I try right-- not too bad-- nothing fancy. I don't even have an oven. But it does the trick! -- better than the trick if I do say so myself. But never the less, kind of hick...

Hanwha Eagles vs. Lotte Giants opening weekend. Now the Giants are Busan's team and the Eagles are from Deajeon. Last year I only went to one game here and yes I cheered for Lotte as I am 'from' Busan and was with Korean fellow-Busanianites. However, many many of my friends this year are Eagles fans. A pickle, you could say, but ::HAN-WHA EAGLESAH!

My first time eating dried squid. This is the thing, first thing you go for is the legs. They are sticking out right so that's what you do. Baaahh!! Wrong! That's the grosses part. I ate one and said screw these legs!

The body however was not so bad. I would defiantly try it again. Jeongeun coached me through the eating process. Instructing me that the eye ball was the best part, you know I gave that a try. I wonder if it will taste different next time when less drinking is involved before hand...

Motorcycle ridezzzz

Last weekend, a mini motorcycle trip was had by a lucky group of people. Well not that mini, a couple hours. However, the still not-so spring weather (last weekend) held us back from a truly long day trip. We ate lunch near the temple in the middle of the ride. I had the best bibimbab ever thanks to the fresh mountain, forest veggies. Those mushrooms, I tell ya!!

I have wanted to make a terrarium for some time now. Well today was my start! A tiny - literally- start at that! Britt proposed the idea to make little terrariums inside of lightbulbs. I can't get over how well they turned out! These pictures do not give them justice! First try too, so I'm sure that the next round will be even better. Also, I hope the plants keep up. We were suppose to use a special kind of plant which I had difficulty finding. This was odd as well for that type of plant is all over my school, just not at the plant store apparently. Woo hoo to crafts! It's great to have a friend like Britt to work with! Now if I could only be this productive everyday!

Jessshhlaaweeesshh! From the way I blog about these blossoms you would think I had spent the winter in Wisconsin!
Guess what?! Cherry blossoms are out!! No awesome pictures yet. Today (and tomorrow) is was a holiday for my school. However, the rain rain won't go away way. So no proof of that yet. All in all, the rain faired me perfectly well today. I had a wonderful day. I am so happy and fortunate to be here, both in Korea and in this point in my life.
Day off- woohoo! Shopping day! I found a shop with vintage clothes from Japan and Thailand. Spent 60 bones: 5 dresses, a BLUE-JEAN vest, a hat, and cowboy boots. Not too bad. Lovin' life- and although I could type about my fabulous day, and this is a treat to have this many words typed out for you, I'm tired and want to continue while I can.

Burger Party!!!

This weekend consisted of two evenings starting out in Seomyeon. Seomyeon, home of the Burger King. Some people were pretty excited about this. So Dan decided to take it to another level and throw an official 'Burger King party' pregame to Saturday night. I helped out and everyone left satisfied. No 'white guilt' was had.

Yes, you heard right. My skills in the kitchen have been slacking as of the last few years. But in the past couple of weeks perhaps I have been noticing a change in this. Starting slow, so don't get too excited yet, I'm dusting off my saute spoon and cutting knife and working at my kitchen skills.
Perhaps it's just a temporary itch but we'll see!!!

After a lovely dinner with some Korean pals on Saturday, I thought that tackling my first pajun was in order. They told me it was a breeze and showed me grandma style (a handful of this, a pinch of that) how to make it. They were right, easy it was and super 맛있다 (mashittda)!

Spanish class has also turned into cooking class. We are trying out the combination of cooking at home and Spanish rather than the traditional coffee and Spanish then dinner out. I have to admit that less Spanish is done this way. However, combining events proves to fit more in. First night of it, tacos. This coming week spaghetti. Spaghetti sounds lame (and a tad hardy) but throw in some mulled wine (yeahyeah well it's not getting any colder) and homemade garlic bread and now you're talking.

Weekend get away!
This weekend Dan and I took a little vacation to Daejeon. Daejeon is Dan's Korean hometown. It is about and hour and a half away from Busan by train, in the middle/west part of Korea. Mike, Rosie, and Aaron also live there. Along with Dan's besties whom hold years of memories behind them (and many more ahead). We decided to visit this fine city. And with Dan as my tour guide, there was no one better to show me what this lovely town has to offer.

Friday
Post work and some quick packing. KTXin' it to Daejeon for the weekend! Kalimochos and excellent conversation, throw in an ipod with a splitter and this train ride flew by! Notice the disposable camera! More pictures may be soon to come.

We arrived around 11 or 12pm and began our hotel hunt. We checked out three until we found the real jem. The first one struck our fancy with the midwest feel. Very log cabin like. Even a deer head above the door! The ajuma wouldn't haggle with us on the price so off we went to see what else we could find.

Ahhh love motels. Not your typical vending machines here...

We didn't go with this hotel either.

Uh-Oho! Mung Motel! At the sight of the pink butterfly outside, I didn't think it would shine. But upon entering the door all of our dreams began to come true. Service of beer and popcorn as soon as you walk into the lobby. Now we are talking! We instantly knew this was the one.

After unloading a few treats we had brought, the mini fridge was packed! And that's just the fridge. The counter was loaded with ramen, nachos, trail mix, and coffee. Ready and set for the weekend!

Saturday
The next day began with a POP!
The first baseball game of the year! Preseason game in Daejeon with the Hanwha Eagles! A sure fire sign that Spring is on its way! :D

After the game we met some other folks at the stage, an outside park area in town with tables and trees to make the perfect visiting spot.

BBQ dinner with another crew rounded off the day and rolled up the start of a fabulous evening.

This was the night, the big social night! Meeting tons of people and having a blast, Daejeon style! And so it began.

Taking full advantage and shower beers to a WHOLE new level! It is a great, grand treat to find a tub in Korea.

Sunday
The tradition continued with a dakgalbi lunch date! Daejeon has some killer dakgalbi. So it was planned from the beginning to feast our faces on this trip. I was not disappointed. In fact, it may be hard to go back to boring Busan dakgabli after that. :D YUM!

We decided to walk off our massive lunch by strolling the streets of Daejeon and doing a little bit of shopping. Dan bought new Kobe basketball shoes and scored me a serviceaahh cookie (haha) in the process. I got a cute headband, jellybeans, and chapstick from back home. We also went to a cutesy Asian photo booth! Time was ticking and an ajuma helped/ hindered our decorating skills so we couldn't get as creative as I would have liked. However, they still turned out terrific and were a ton of fun. How cute is that big one?! So cute right?! Makes you want to puke a little? I know! It's great!x

I spotted some phallic looking ice creams next to a super excited Korean girl. Dan pretended to have an ice cream dick.

On Friday I teach a special newspaper class. Each month the kids get a Korean made English newspaper. This month is a real treat for me! I was handed this jem with Aaron Rodgers and Clay Matthews in all their glory on the front cover!

Last week Sunday Funday was out of control. Ugh. Shot goggles

A man dancing with a chair around his head. Later, a guy had real darts thrown at his butt and I saw his penis. Too much. TOO MUCH.
Gross.

Subway ride home. It was late so the trains ran less frequent. I was bored and drunk. Took pictures and decided I was going to paint pictures of some of them. I called Dan and talked dirty to him the whole train ride home. Sure the Koreans loved me, f-in' waygooks.

The old crew met up for dinner and drinks pre-open mic yesterday. This little meet-up ended up stealing the show. Last years crew together again. It doesn't happen that often these days. And as the next couple weeks and months roll by many of these fine folks will be leaving the ROK. Sad day. But this one was happy. <3

I just received this years schedule for school. I have had eight days off already, mind you. And guess how many I have left this year? Guess! SEVENTEEN! That's 25 total. I'll take it! Of course, this is not counting Saturdays and Sundays but never the less... Hello three and four day weekends! Hello vacation! Hello sunshine and exotic places! Ahhh Korea. <333

Oooowwwwwhh craft project!

Check one off the list! On Monday, I made a couple of decoupage lanterns/ candle holders. They turned out pretty great. I may now be on a spree to fill my baby studio apartment with them.

Also, for those of you who do not have the pleasure of knowing, I love making cards! I don't know if anything can beat last year's Halloween cards. Really, they were great. And of course, I didn't take any pictures. But holy cats! They were jems. I managed to get out a couple Valentines this year. Nothing too much, can't take too much of the hearts and flowers. Mine were nice and corny. Lots of puns. Again, no pictures. However, Tucker took a picture of his so I will put that up.
Hmmm perhaps next time I will snap a shot or two. At least for my memory.

I think my favorite was two purple cut out beats, "No one can beet a friend like you!" On another, I created little nut shapes, "Don't go nuts without me!"

Valentine's Day Snow Blizzard!

Hastily taken photos from my slippy sliddy walk to work. A shot snatched quickly caught between me nearly falling on my bum and trying not to be late for work. This was the most snow in a long long while in Busan. I even had a half day at school! Woohoo!

The next day is here and the snow is still out. Here are some quick shots from outside of my window. And now you can also see my view. When I sit at my desk I just see the mountains and sky- works out pretty well that way. Clear sunny day but it's freezing. Bah! Go figure--one nice week and I get all excited- stock up on outdoor gear. Then bam! The coldest snowiest weather yet! I know I shouldn't be talking compared the midwest<3 buuuuuuttttt HURRY UP SPRING!
